Rhyolite Ghost Town
Travel back in time to the Gold Rush of 1904 when Rhyolite was a thriving town of 600 residents. This tiny town is steeped in history and is known as Nevada’s most photographed ghost town! As you stroll through the empty streets, you’ll feel the history in your bones as you gaze at the buildings that hold stories of the past.
Afterwards, take a ten-minute stroll over to the Goldwell Open Air Museum. This permanent art installation in the middle of the Mojave desert adds to the eerie atmosphere of Rhyolite. Ghoul-like figures hover over the landscape reflecting a one-of-a-kind depiction of the Last Supper. Sit on the “Sit Here!” mosaic bench as you gaze in awe at the “Lady Desert”, a massive pink cinder block creation of a pixelated desert goddess. Wrap up your desert art tour with “Icara”, a towering wooden structure inspired by the mythological story of Icarus depicted in female form.
Seven Magic Mountains
Still feelin’ artsy? Then scoot on over to the Seven Magic Mountains! These 30 to 35-feet high glowing totems are hard to miss. Painted and locally-sourced boulders are an eye-catching display demonstrating how nature can meet artificial in a beautiful, symbiotic relationship.
