Camping Games for Kids of all Ages

Ready to play? We’ve pulled together a list of our favorite camping games. Your imagination often provides the very best games. But with those storage compartments and cubbies in your camper van, you can also take along a few card and board games. We’ve got games below that are guaranteed to keep you laughing and smiling all the way down the road.

For Little Kids

gofindit (age 3+): A new game every time you open the bag. This camping game is an outdoor scavenger hunt, where games can last from two minutes, to all day. And the game changes with every new place you park or camp!

“I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing …” (age 4+): This word and memory game is great for practicing the alphabet and memory skills! Each person takes a turn saying one thing that they’ll bring on the picnic, starting with the letter “a”, like “I’m going on a camping trip and I’m bringing an apple!” and then the next person continues with the letter “b”, but they have to remember the word from the person before, like, “I’m going on a picnic and I’m bringing an apple and bread!” And then on through the alphabet until someone can’t remember one of the picnic items!

Toasted Or Roasted (age 6+): This is a simple and fun draw and discard card game that’s easy for young readers to learn. “The kids’ favorite!! We must have played this multiple times a day. All of the pieces were fun and interactive, it was easy to understand and held everyone’s attention. I think we need to get it for our camping box!” – Natalie 

For Bigger Kids

UNO: Wilderness Version (age 7+): Played the same as classic UNO, but the cards in this edition feature a colorful wilderness theme.

Bananagrams (age 7+): This word building game is appealing because it’s super portable, it can have multiple players, and it comes in a banana-shaped bag!

Exploding Kittens (age 7+): Exploding Kittens is a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions and laser beams and sometimes goats. If the sound of childrens’ laughter is a road trip soundtrack you enjoy, then add this “kitty-powered version of Russian Roulette” to your card game stash.

For The Biggest Kids Of All

While you were sleeping …: Honestly, kids of all ages can play this one. But it seems to get extra hilarious when you have a camper van with four adults and one of them nods off. While that person slumbers, the other passengers take turns making up a story, adding a sentence at a time. When the snoozing friend wakes up, the others try to convince them that the story is true by sharing their sentence that they contributed to the story. If the unaware friend figures out it’s all a sham while someone shares their part of the story, that person loses a point. For every storyteller who makes it through their part of the story, they earn a point. If the friend believes the whole story, all the storytellers get a point. If the story isn’t believed at all, the sleeping friend is the winner!
